From there, she considers the most conservative suitable treatment, whether that means whitening, bonding, orthodontic treatment, veneers, crowns, or no treatment at all. Smile design is individualized around the patient’s goals, tooth color, shape, proportion, translucency, gum levels, facial features, lip movement, existing dental work, tooth position, bite forces, wear patterns, and long-term maintenance needs. The goal is not artificial perfection, but a balanced, natural-looking result that suits the patient’s face and functions appropriately. When porcelain veneers or crowns are part of the plan, Dr. Koval also works closely with her dental ceramist to coordinate shade, contour, translucency, texture, material selection, and the relationship among restorations so the final result reflects both the clinical plan and the intended aesthetic outcome.
